India is sending a train carrying gasoil to Bangladesh – a move the Indian High Commission in Dhaka says is a “goodwill gesture”.
In a media statement, the high commission said Dharmendra Pradhan, India’s minister (independent charge) for petroleum and natural gas flagged off the train carrying 2,200MT gasoil yesterday from West Bengal’s Siliguri.
State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid and Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla will receive the consignment at Parbatipur tomorrow.
The statement said the event was “very significant” as it highlighted cooperation between the neighbours in the energy sector as outlined in the joint declaration adopted during Narendra Modi’s 2015 Dhaka visit.
On April 20 last year, NRL and BPC signed an MoU in Dhaka for implementation of a 130km Indo-Bangla Friendship Pipeline from NRL’s Siliguri Marketing Terminal to BPC’s Parbatipur Petroleum Product Storage Depot in Dinajpur through a joint venture company having equity participation from both NRL and BPC.
NRL has supplied this first 2,200MT consignment at a goodwill price as proposed by BPC, the statement added.
