Update : 16 Mar 2016, 06:32 PM

Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani will visit Dhaka this year.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Ashud Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited Qatar thrice and now it is their turn to visit.

“I met the Qatari prime minister and he expressed his keen desire to visit Dhaka,” he said.

He said the emir would visit after the prime minister and they are discussing possible dates.

Ashud said PetroBangla and Qatari company Rasgas are negotiating on developing a LNG terminal and importing LNG from Qatar.

Bangladesh wants to build the terminal to meet energy demand.  Qatar has expertise in this sector.

The countries signed a MoU to import LNG but it expired, he said.

Qatar is going to host World Cup Football in 2022 and it also has Vision 2030 to become a country of the developed world.

Ashud said Qatar needed manpower for its many ongoing projects.

He said about three lakh Bangladeshis, many of them unskilled, are working in Qatar.

Qatar wants to take half a million manpower from Bangladesh and Qatari team visited Dhaka in March to discuss the issue, he added.
