Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani will visit Dhaka this year.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Ashud Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already visited Qatar three times and now it is their turn to visit Bangladesh.
“I met the Qatari prime minister and he expressed his keen desire to visit Dhaka,” he said.
He said Emir would visit after the visit of the prime minister and they are discussing possible dates.
The ambassador said PetroBangla and Qatari company Rasgas are negotiating on developing a LNG terminal and importing LNG from Qatar.
Bangladesh wants to build the LNG terminal to meet its energy demand and Qatar has expertise in this sector.
Both the countries signed a memorandum of understanding to import LNG but it had been expired, he said.
Qatar is going to host World Cup Football in 2022 and it also has Vision 2030 to become a country of the developed world.
The envoy said many projects are ongoing in Qatar and they need manpower to implement those.
He said about three lakh Bangladeshis are working in Qatar but many of them are unskilled.
Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam visited Qatar last month and had a very fruitful talk with the Qatari authorities, he said.
Qatar wants to take about half a million professional and skilled manpower from Bangladesh and Qatari team visited Dhaka in March to discuss the issue, he added.
