The World Consumers’ Rights Day-2016 was observed across the country with a renewed pledge for creating mass awareness to launch a vigorous campaign to protect the interests of the people.
In Chittagong, the day with a theme ‘Antibotic Off the Menu’ was observed in the port city.
Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) organised a discussion meeting at Chittagong Circuit House.
Consumers’ Association of Bangladesh (CAB) formed a human chain and a youth rally in the city on the occasion of the day.
With CAB Youth Group secretary M Ansarul Karim in the chair, the rally was addressed by CAB central committee vice president SM Nazer Hossain, Kazi Iqbal Bahar, Ajay Mitra Shonku, Jane Alam and AM Touhidul Islam, among others.
The leaders at the rally called for waging social movement against lacing foods with different chemicals including antibiotics.
In Rangpur, the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection and District Administration jointly organised a seminar at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in observance of the day.
Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hassan Ahmed attended the seminar as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Md Rahat Anwar in the chair.
Deputy Director of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection for Rangpur Khondker Nurul Amin, Deputy Director (Local Government) Sultana Parveen, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rev) Mostain Billah and Senior District Information Officer Humayun Kabir, addressed among others.
The speakers called for raising adequate public awareness, strict enforcement of the Consumers’ Rights Protection Law to protect the consumers’ rights through freeing the human body from any kind of food poisoning and other contamination.
