At least five people were killed in separate road accidents in Hobiganj, Gazipur, Chuadanga and Lalmonirhat yesterday.
Three members of Ansar were killed and 30 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and truck in Shaistaganj of Habiganj. The deceased are Ziaul, 30, Sudeep, 24, and Babu Mia, 28.
Police said a bus carrying Ansar men had collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound truck in Shutang area yesterday morning, killing the three on the spot and injuring the others.
Later, angry locals blocked the Dhaka-Sylhet highway for an hour. Shaistaganj OC Jakir Hossain said: “On information, a team of police rescued the injured and sent them to Habiganj Sadar Hospital.” He said the bodies have been kept at the hospital.
In Gazipur, an unidentified man was killed and 10 others were injured as a human hauler plunged into a roadside ditch on the Kaliakoir bypass in Goalbachhan area of Kaliakoir upazila in the morning.
In Lalmonirhat, another schoolboy was killed as a bus ran over him at Baura, Patgram upazila in the morning. The deceased was identified as Naim, 10, a student of Class IV at Baniapara Government Primary School.
