A jhut trader has been shot to death by assailants in Kamal Gate area of Chittagong.
The deceased is Abul Rashed, 45. He was an activist of local Awami League.
CMP Kotwali Circle Assistant Commissioner Md Moin Uddin said: “A gang of unidentified assailants stormed into Abul's house and shot him around 12:30am Tuesday.”
Later, doctors declared him dead when his family members took him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
The assistant commissioner said: “We have detained one Mujib in connection to the incident. Abul might have been murdered regarding some conflicts over establishing supremacy in the area.”
However, he said the reason behind the murder can only be confirmed once the investigation is over.
