Update : 13 Mar 2016, 04:33 AM

A mother and her two sons have been killed when a covered-van smashed a CNG-run auto rickshaw at Chittagong district’s Mirsarai upazila.

The deceased were identified as Sahida Akhtar, 32, wife of Didarul Alam and her two sons Saidul Islam, 10, and one-year old Saimon, said police sources.

Jorarganj Highway police outpost’s In-Charge (IC) Sub-Inspector (SI) Farid Uddin told the Dhaka Tribune: “The incident took place when a speedy covered van knocked down a CNG-run auto rickshaw carrying the trio at Mirsarai’s municipality area’s Project Road at around 6:15am on Sunday.”

SI Mainuddin of Jorarganj police station said the trio were killed on the spot following the accident while the driver of the killer vehicle managed to flee with the traffic soon after the accident.

Being informed the family members took the bodies at their house while police sent the body at hospital for postmortem, said the SI adding that the CNG-driver narrowly escaped the accident.

SI Farid Uddin said police were trying to trace out the vehicle and arresting its driver.
