Dhaka CNG autorickshaw drivers to go on strike today

Dhaka district CNG-run Autorickshaw Drivers Union will enforce a 24-hour strike in the capital from 6am today to press home their demands.

The decision was taken at a meeting held at its Dhalpur office in the city with its President Md Rafique in the chair yesterday morning.

The meeting decided to enforce the strike from 6am today to 6am tomorrow to press home its seven-point demand, said Md Kamal Ahmed, general secretary of the organisation.

He said the demands included immediately stopping random fine and jailing by the mobile courts over the last several months, immediate release of the drivers who have already been sent to jail by mobile courts, as well as withdrawal of cases filed against them and immediate distribution of 5,000 more CNG-run autorickshaws among the drivers as part of improving quality passenger service.
