NBR asks all commissioners to be regular in offices

Update : 12 Mar 2016, 07:03 PM

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has asked all its field officials not to stay off their respective duties to regularly monitor the revenue collection activities as the authorities found it necessary to achieve the revenue target in the current fiscal year.

The tax authorities on March 10 took the initiative at a board meeting presided over by its Chairman Nojibur Rahman at its headquarter for smooth functioning of revenue collection for the FY2015-16.

During the meeting, the NBR chair issued a five-point directive to all commissioners from income tax zones, customs houses, and customs, excise and VAT commissionerates including regular presence of the commissioners in their offices, making visits to their subordinate offices and monitoring activities of all their subordinate staff.

NBR members will regularly visit the income tax, customs, and VAT offices and will keep an eye on the revenue collection scenario, according to the meeting.

The commissioners were also asked to ensure taxpayers friendly and revenue friendly atmosphere at their workplaces. The revenue authorities have asked the commissioners to strictly monitor their subordinate officials so that no taxpayer faces harassment while paying tax, it said.

Earlier in last September, the NBR issued an order to its field offices of customs and VAT wings, asking them to be regular in the offices for smooth functioning of revenue collection for the FY15-16.

The revenue authority took the decision following allegations that the divisional chiefs under both the wings remained absent in offices and stayed in Dhaka without any prior permission, which had a negative impact on the disciplinary system and revenue collection.
