Street caves in at Gulshan

Update : 11 Mar 2016, 09:02 PM

A 30-foot stretch of a street in Dhaka’s Gulshan has subsided during development works.

Quoting locals, fire service Inspector Miron Mia said portion of road No 55 in Gulshan 2 subsided yesterday afternoon when Dhaka North City Corporation’s development work was in progress.

“Firefighters rushed to the spot immediately and started filling up work,” he told the Dhaka Tribune, adding that after initial inspection they believed the incident would not have serious impact on the area.

There was no immediate report of injury or any damage.

Dhaka’s development authority Rajuk’s Chairman JM Zainal Abedin said he suspected the street was constructed after filling up parts of the lake. “The truth could be known after reviewing documents,” he said.

“Our first priority is to fill up the subsided area. We will decide on the course of action after taking opinion of a Buet specialist team.”
