Portion of road sinks in Gulshan

A 30-foot stretch of a street in Dhaka's Gulshan has caved in during development works.

Inspector Miron Mia of Baridhara unit of Fire Service and Civil Defence told the Dhaka Tribune: “Locals informed us that a portion of road No 55 in Gulshan 2 area caved in the ground on Friday afternoon while the employees of Dhaka North City Corporation were conducting a development work in the area.

“Being informed, firefighters reached the spot around 3:30pm and started the filling up work immediately.”

“In initial inspection, we found that it is a minor incident and it will not cast any adverse impact on the area,” added the official.

No immediate report of injury or any damage has been filed till filing the story around 5pm.

Dhaka's development authority RAJUK's Chairma JM Zainal Abedin said he suspected the street was constructed after filling up parts of the lake. “The fact could be known after reviewing documents,” he said.

“Our first priority is to fill up the subsided area. We will decide on the course of action after a specialist team from BUET gives its opinion.”
