Update : 09 Mar 2016, 08:11 PM

Motorcyclist Rowson Jamir was hit by an oncoming train yesterday morning when he tried to race past a rail crossing gate at Khilkhet area.

Though the gate had fallen and the speeding train was seconds away, the 39-year-old teacher of a Gazipur area school made the attempt and paid the price.

Rowson fell from the motorbike which was dragged down the tracks by the train. Locals rushed him to Kurmitola General Hospital where the doctor declared him dead.

The accident occurred yesterday around 9:30am at Bonorupa rail crossing in Khilkhet area in the capital, said Dhaka Railway police Sub-inspector (SI) Ali Akbar.

He also said the aforementioned train, the Rangpur express, had left Kamalapur railway station earlier that morning.

For this incident, the case was filed as an unnatural death. Rowson’s body was handed over to family members without an autopsy, the SI added.

Rowson’s brother Advocate Mahmudul Hasan told Dhaka Tribune that Rowson worked as a headmaster of a BRTA public school in Gazipur. Though, a month ago, he resigned from that school and joined another school in the area. He does not know the name of the current present school.

Rowson lived in Khilkhet with his wife Shayla Sarmin and only son Tahmid, a nursery student at a local school. Rowson was buried in his village at Lohagara upazila in Narail district, Mahmudul added.
