Detective Branch of Police have detained 10 people with 70,000 pieces of yaba tablets from the capital's Darussalam area in Mirpur.
Of the detainees, one was identified as Nobi Hossain alias Bhutto. He is a drug dealer while the others are his associates.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Maruf Hossain Sarder confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday morning.
He said: “Two private cars which were being used to carry yaba tablets from one place to another were also seized in the drive.”
Later in a press briefing, Additional Commissioner of DMP Monirul Islam said: “We conducted the drive as a part of our mission to combat transnational crimes.
He said the DB police helped the counter terrorism and transnational crimes unit in the drive.
Monirul said: “We got information about 12 organised transnational criminal groups of which we have identified this group as one.”
In two other separate drives, police detained six people along with 1,000 pieces of yaba tablets in the capital's Chawkbazar and Jatrabari areas on Monday night.
