Five children sustained injuries as a wall collapsed on them in Nandankanon area, Kotwali police station in the port city yesterday.
The injured were identified as Sajib, 6, and his brother Arif, 4, Riyad, 9, Mehedi, 7, and Yasin, 15.
Of them, Yasin was given primary treatment at a local clinic while others were whisked off to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Yahiya Akhter, deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters in Chittagong, told the Dhaka Tribune that a portion of a wall had collapsed on the boys when they were playing near an under-construction building about 1pm.
“The boys were remained trapped under the wall for a few minutes till the rescue team reached there.”
Later, firefighters went to the spot and rescued the boys.
“Primarily it seemed to us that the wall became weak due to the piling works being carried out on the other side of an under-construction building,” he said.
