Tripartite meetings on FY2017 budget underway

Finance and planning ministries have started meetings with different ministries and divisions to discuss development project allocations in the next fiscal year’s budget. 

The two ministries held the first meeting with women and children affairs ministry yesterday. There will be a total of 60 such meetings in next 23 days. The last meeting will be on March 19 with science and technology ministry.

The tripartite meetings will determine ceilings in development projects allocation for the fiscal year 2016-17. 

Meanwhile, in a letter yesterday, the National Board of Revenue has requested economists, experts and trade associations to submit their budget proposals by March 10 before the start of start of pre-budget meets with different stakeholders.

NBR hoped that the proposals would help the budget be “pro-people and participatory.”

Finance  Division officials said the division already discussed about the total figure of the FY2016-17 budget which could be nearly Tk3,39,000 crore.

They further said a new capital account budget would be introduced in the year.

“Under the capital account budget, finance division will collect fund for big infrastructure projects,” said an official.
