A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of ruling party Awami League (AL), of Chittagong University (CU) unit has physical assaulted two students of CU including a journalist of a local daily.
The assaulted students - Mizanur Rahman, student of Public Administration department also the CU Correspondent of local daily Purbodesh and Saddam Hossain of Marketing department, were received primary treatment from CU Medical Centre, said campus sources.
Witnesses said the students of the different department deposited their money standing in queue inside CU Agrani Bank Branch at around 12pm Sunday while an altercation ensued between Saddam and BCL activist Robin as Robin tried to deposit his money to bank without maintaining any line.
Later Robin and other BCL activists physically harassed Saddam inside the bank over the issue while Mizan rushed to the bank getting Saddam phone and asked the BCL men about the matter, said the witnesses.
“Rescuing Saddam from the BCL men, we went near the Shahid Minar area. Then, Robin who belongs to CU BCL president Alamgir Tipu group and his other associates beat us up asking to show them university ID cards”, said victim Mizan.
Following the matter a written complaint was filed with CU proctor office, said Mizan.
CU Proctor Ali Azgar Chowdhury said the proctorial body heard the incident while punitive measure will be taken after getting complaint.
