Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said the government has a plan to construct a theatre complex of international standard as there is no such hall in the country for producing good stage dramas.
“There is no international standard theatre complex comprising all modern facilities in Bangladesh. We want to construct one,” she said at the inaugural programme of the newly constructed Bangladesh Mohila Samity Complex in the capital’s Bailey Road area.
Hasina said she had talked to the finance minister in this regard. “The finance minister is very interested in it, and he said there would be no fund problem,” she was quoted by UNB.
Hasina mentioned that whenever she went abroad, she would try to go to a theatre. “I saw helicopter landing on the stage, train passing through the stage at foreign theatres. This is the age of digital technology… this is not a tough job to do, but in our country there is no theatre like that.”
Presided over by Social Welfare Secretary Dr Chowdhury M Babul Hasan, the function was also addressed, among others, by Bangladesh Mohila Samity President Sitara Ahsanullah and General Secretary Tania Bakht.
