The leading physicians of the country reaveled that seven out of ten hypertensive patients in Bangladesh failed to reach their target blood pressure after taking antihypertensive drugs. For hypertensive patients, they said that the new anti-hypertensive combination drug COVERAM is very effective in reaching the target blood pressure and reducing future risk of mortality, stroke or diabetes. Servier Bangladesh Operations organised the meeting in Dhaka Club on Tuesday to adress this issue.
COVERAM is a research brand of Servier which has been recently available in Bangladesh. It is widely prescribed around the world for high blood pressure.
A group of professors from different institutes including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka Medical College, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, attended the meeting. Citing the examples of different clinical studies, they said that this new drug was able to reach target blood pressure in 84% of the patients. Accordng to ASCOT study, they said COVERAM reduces cardiovascular mortality by 24%, strokes by 23% and new onset of diabetes by 30%. They suggested Bangladesh to avail the benefits of COVERAM for the treatment of Bangladeshi hypertensive patients.
