The family members of army officials, who were killed during the 2009 BDR mutiny, have urged the authorities to expose the masterminds behind the brutal killings.
They also demanded quick execution of the verdict in murder cases filed in connection with the mutiny.
The demands came from a commemorative meeting held in the capital's Rabindra Sarobar on Friday. The event was organised by Col Mojibul Hoque Trust.
“We cannot say whether we are satisfied or dissatisfied with the verdict. But, we have waited so long for it and now we want quick execution,” said Nehrin Ferdousi, widow of Col Mojibul Hoque, Dhaka commander of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) “fair price shops” programme, run during the term of the last caretaker government to curb price hikes of essentials.
“But, We want to know about the masterminds behind the mutiny,” she added.
The family members of the slain army officials called upon the government to take initiative to announce the 25th February as “Shaheed Sena Dibos.”
They also raised the demand of setting up a memorial, commemorating the slain army officials.
During the mutiny on February 25-26, 2009, at least 74 people including 57 army officials were killed at the force’s Pilkhana Headquarters in the capital.
In November 2013, the court sentenced 150 soldiers of Bangladesh Rifles, now Border Guard Bangladesh, and two civilians to death, and jailed 161 for life for their involvement.
It also gave rigorous imprisonment, ranging from three to 10 years, to 256 people, mostly the soldiers. The 277 other accused were acquitted.
The appeals case is now underway at the Supreme Court.
