The first death anniversary of blogger and writer Avijit Roy was observed on Friday.
Marking the day, Blogger and Online Activist Network (BOAN) has chalked out elaborate programmes.
As part of the programmes, the bloggers and online activists placed a floral wreath at the mural of the slain writer at TSC's Avijit Chattar around 2:30pm Friday.
They also held a discussion titled “Attack on freethinking, future Bangladesh and our duties” around 4pm at the TSC of Dhaka University.
On the occasion, Gonojagoron Moncho organised a commemorative meeting at Shahbagh intersection in the capital, recalling his contributions to objective writings and the flourish of freethinking in Bangladesh.
Besides, family members and well wishers have chalked out a number of programmes to commemorate the blogger.
Avijit Roy and his wife blogger Rafida Ahmed Bonya received severe injuries when unidentified miscreants hacked them at TSC of Dhaka University on February 26 last year.
Avijit, son of DU teacher Dr Ajoy Roy and also the founder of Mukto-Mona Blog, and Rafida were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the Bangladesh-born US writer died while undergoing treatment.
Avijit, a Bangladesh-born US engineer rose to prominence with his books on philosophy, scientific thought and human rights issues.
