At least four alleged robbers have sustained bullet injures as their gang locked in gunfight with local DB officials in Kodda Islampur area under the Gazipur city.
The reported shootout took place early Friday and the injured robbers, namely Sultan Uddin, 42, Salam, 40, Hamidul, 30, and Mamun, 25, got admitted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital under police custody.
Gazipur Detective Branch of Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Ekbal Hossain said a robber named Mizanur Rahman had managed a job at Ocean Garment as a security guard and he fed cakes, mixed with intoxicated medicine, all of his colleagues on Thursday evening to become them unconscious.
“Around 2:30am, his 15-16 accomplices by a microbus swooped on the apparel factory and started looting its belongings. Acting on a tip-off, we have conducted a drive there and the robbers opened firing at us to make a gateway to flee. In retaliation, we also fired back creating the shootout in which the robbers received bullet injures,” Ekbal Hossain also said.
However, other robbers managed to escape the spot. Police recovered the looted materials loaded in a covered van.
The four are accused in several cases filed with different police stations in the district, the SI continued.
