The country yesterday experienced a sporadic rainfall with thunder and hailstorm in different places, which the Met office termed usual and expected in the season.
According to Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the capital city experienced a 9 millimeter rainfall with gusty wind as well as hailstorm of 33 kilometers per hour.
“We are expecting the thunder shower at this period of the month due to the changing pattern of season,” said a meteorologist of the BMD.
Regarding the thunder storm, the met office said: “We had been forecasting for the last few days that there would be such rainfall.”
However, some parts of the city experienced heavy hailstorm.
Besides the Dhaka city, most of the areas in the country except Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions experienced rainfall with gusty wind yesterday.
The Met office recorded the highest 81mm rainfall in Satkhira yesterday while Rangamati district of Chittagong division 72 mm.
The average projected rainfall in Dhaka in a single day in a year on February 23 was 2.6mm.
According to the Met office’s three-month long forecast, the country has experienced around 19% less rainfall than expected.
It also forecast that the capital city would experience around 29mm rainfall in February.
