Amar Ekhushey observed in befitting manner

The International Mother Language Day was observed in the port city as elsewhere with due respect and solemnity.

Chittagong Central Shaheed Minar turned into a human sea shortly after zero hours with the presence of thousands of people from different walks of life.

Leaders of different political parties, sociocultural and professional organisations and people from all walks of life from children to adults gathered at the Central Shaheed Minar to pay respect to the martyred language heroes and placed wreaths one after another at the Shaheed Minar maintaining discipline with due honour at 12:01am yesterday.

To mark the day, different political, professional and sociocultural organisations held daylong programmes, including discussion meeting, milad mahfil, poetry recitation, arts competition for children, voluntary blood donation and cultural functions.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, MP, was the first to place the wreath at the Shaheed Minar.

He was followed by the Chittagong City mayor AZM Nasir Uddin, on behalf of Chittagong City Corporation, former mayor and president of Chittagong city Awami League (AL) ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, on behalf of City Awami League,

Divisional Commissioner Ruhul Amin, DIG Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mezbah Uddin, Chairman of Chittagong Development Authority Abdus Salam, District Administrator MA Salam and Superintendent of Chittagong district police Hafiz Akter.

Besides, different educational institutions and sociocultural organisations chalked out separate programmes to mark the day.

Chittagong City Corporation on the occasion of immortal Ekhushey accorded Ekhushey Memorial Award to 16 eminent individuals including journalists at city’s Muslim Institute Hall today.

In Rangpur, Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day was observed  amid huge enthusiasm in a befitting manner to pay due respect to the Language Movement Martyrs.

The district and upazila administrations, City Corporation, socio-cultural and professional organisations, political parties, private bodies and educational institutions have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.

In Rangpur city, the observance began at one minute past after midnight through placing wreaths by former President, Jatiya Party Chairman and Prime  Minister’s Special Envoy Alhaj Hussein Muhammad Ershad at Central Shaheed  Minar here to pay due respect to the Language Movement Martyrs.

Later, City Mayor Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Kazi Hasan Ahmed and Acting Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur  Range Humayun Kabir placed wreaths there.

Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar and Police Super Abdur Razzaque along with officials of the district administration also placed floral wreaths there followed by the other government and non-government departments and organisations.

Leaders of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, Awami League (AL) and other political parties, professional organisations and common people also placed  wreaths there to pay homage to the Language Movement Martyrs.

Besides, competitions for the children on drawing, essay writing, hand writing, rendering patriotic songs and sports competitions for the underprivileged children were arranged along with screening of documentary films on the language movement.

In Rajshahi, theInternational Mother Language Day was observed in Rajshahi city as elsewhere of the country today (Sunday) in a befitting manner paying of glowing tributes to the memories of the language movement martyrs.

Different socio-cultural, political organisations, educational institutions, professional groups and district administrations chalked out various programmes to observe the Day.

Various political parties and socio-cultural and volunteer organisations and educational institutions observed the day with a renewed pledge for building a happy, prosperous and non-communal Bangladesh.

In Khulna, people in all walks of life today observed “Amar Ekushey” and the International Mother Language Day here with due solemnity and respect to the language heroes martyrs.

Amar Ekushey observed at defunct enclaves

The inhabitants of recently defunct 59 enclaves yesterday observed Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day-2016, paying rich tributes to the Language Movement martyrs, who laid down their lives for the mother tongue Bangla on February 21, 1952.

The programme began with placing of wreaths by district Awami League General Secretary Advocate M Matiar Rahman at one minute past the zero hour in the temporary Shaheed Minar at Vitorkuti under Kulaghat Union.

Meanwhile, deputy commissioner and superintendent of police placed wreaths at the district central Shaheed Minar at one minute past the zero hour.
