Bangladesh missions abroad observed Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day yesterday in a befitting manner with a call for upholding the values of 1952 and 1971.
The day’s programmes started with the hoisting of the national flag at half-mast by the heads of mission in presence of the officials, foreign guests and expatriate Bangladeshis in respective countries, according to messages from various missions.
Besides, the messages issued by President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam were read out in the missions, according to Press Information Department handouts.
In the meetings, Bangladesh diplomats spoke on the significance of the day and touched upon some historical aspects of Language Martyrs’ Day and its relevance in promoting mother language among the new generation. Special prayers were, thereafter, offered for salvation of the souls of the martyrs.
The missions also organised cultural programmes to observe Language Martyrs’ Day.
Reports about the observance of Amar Ekushey have so far been received from Bangladesh missions in London, Bangkok, Bangladesh Permanent Mission in the UN in New York, Islamabad, Tashkent, Bandar Seri Begawan and Kolkata.
