Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo has observed Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day 2016 in a befitting manner.
The programme was attended by a good number of Japanese academicians, officials, businessmen and civil society members along with the members of Bangladesh community in Japan, said a press release.
The programme included placing floral wreath to the altar of Shahid Minar, hoisting the national flag half-mast, observing one minute silence, discussion meeting and cultural performance.
Earlier in the morning of Sunday, several hundred Bangladesh community members led by Rabab Fatima, the ambassador of Bangladesh to Japan, placed floral wreath at the permanent Shahid Minar at Ikebukuro Nishiguchi Park.
Later, a discussion meeting was held where the Japanese guests shared their experience of Bangla language and culture and also highlighted the importance of promotion, protection and preservation of mother tongues.
Rabab Fatima shed light on the history and significance of the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day.
Moreover, the Bangladesh community representatives, in their discussion, highlighted the role of the community in the promotion of Bangla language and culture.
They also underlined the need for establishing a Bangla School in Japan for promoting Bangla language and culture.
They also hoped more coverage by Japanese media on the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day.
The discussion meeting was followed by a cultural programme participated by, among others, the students of Bangla Department of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
