Renowned Indian filmmaker Goutam Ghose recently wrapped up an India-Bangladesh joint production titled Shankhachil. Prosenjit Chaterjee and Kusum Sikder starred in the partition-drama, which is set to release on the occasion of upcoming Pohela Boishakh on April 14. The film will be released in both countries at the same time.
Recently, the film’s first poster came out at a ceremony held at Nandan in Kolkata, where dignitaries associated with the film, Shibprasad Mukhopadhyay, Nandita Roy, Kaushik Ganguly, Srijit Mukherji, Kamaleshwar Mukherjee and Arindam Sil, were present to support the work of the film’s cast and crew.
Shankhachil chronicles the partition of India in 1947, focusing on a family that parted due to the misfortunate event of the year. Some members were then forced to live on the other side of the border. Their rage against the partition and struggles afterwards are portrayed in the film. Dipankar Dey and Shajbati play the supporting role in the film.
In the ceremony, Goutam Ghose, who has earlier worked with another India-Bangladesh partition film Moner Manush, a biopic of Lalon, said: “Joint venture production is beneficiary for both the countries’ film market. And through this production, my dream of making a film on partition of 1947 has finally seen the light.”
