Bangladesh has earned around US$8 million exporting crabs in 2014-15 fiscal year.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday told the parliament that Bangladesh exported $7.66 million in FY2014-15.
Replying to a query, the minister said the government has taken various steps to increase the export of crab.
He said: “Forest and Environment Ministry was requested to scrutinise the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act 2012 for an amendment. This is to remove all barriers against the country’s crab export.”
Fisheries Research Institute was requested to find out scientific way to reduce deaths of crabs while the exporters and transporters were requested to export crab alive, said the minister.
