6 suspected Huji militants on remand

A Dhaka court has placed each of the six suspected members of the banned militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (Huji), who were arrested on Tuesday, on a six-day remand.

The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Alamgir Kabir Raj passed the order on Wednesday afternoon after the police produced the suspected militants before his court.

Earlier, acting on a tip-off, Detective Branch of Police and DMP's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit made the arrest on Tuesday evening while they were holding a secret meeting in the capital's Zindabahar Park.

The arrested are Kushtia unit Huji Commander Sazzadul Alam alias Mukti, Mezbaur Rahman alias Pradip, a driver at Mirpur Fire Service and Civil Defence in Kushtia, Bashar, an Imam of a local mosque, Ashraf, computer operator of Huji, Aziz alias Babu and Shafique who is simultaneously known as Polash and Bijoy.

DB Senior Assistant Commissioner (south) Mahmuda Afruz Lucky told the Dhaka Tribune that they discovered some Jihadi books and computer accessories from their possession.
