Police have recovered the bodies of four children, who remained missing for five days, from a ditch at Shundratiki village under Babubol upazila of Habiganj district.
Locals spotted the bodies on Wednesday morning and informed police.
The district police authorities have declared a reward of Tk1 lakh if anyone helps them to trace the criminals involved in the incident.
The deceased are Jakaria Ahmed Shuvo, 8, son of Md Wahid Miah, Tajel Miah, 10, son of Abdul Aziz, Monir Miah, 7, son of Abdal Miah and Ismail Hossain, son of Abdul Kader.
Jakaria, Tajel and Monir's fathers are cousin while Ismail was their neighbour.
Bahubol model police station OC Mosharaf Hossain said: “We have recognised the corpses. The bodies are of the children who went missing last Friday.”
The children went to play on Friday morning and since then they had been missing, he said.
DIG Mizanur Rahman visited the crime spot in the afternoon and assured of ensuring justice in the incident. Later, he made the declaration of Tk1 lakh reward there.
On Monday, Habiganj Superintendent of Police Joydeb Kumar Bhadra declared a bounty of Tk20,000 for any information regarding the missing children.
Jakaria's father Wahid filed a case with Bahubol police station on Tuesday night.
