Bir Pratik Taramon Bibi hospitalised

Critically ill Bir Pratik Taramon Bibi has been admitted at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).

She was brought in to the hospital on Monday afternoon and was admitted at the hospital's Coronary Care Unit (CCU), where she is currently on breathing support. Sources said she had been suffering from respiratory disease.

Talking to the Dhaka Tribune, MMCH Director Brig Gen (retd) Md Nasiruddin said a medical board would be formed for the Taramon's treatment. He said if necessary, the hospital will take all financial responsibility for her treatment as well.

Bir Pratik Taramon Bibi's real name is Taramon Begum. She was born in Kacharipara, a village in Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram district, to Abdus Sohban and Kulsum Bibi. She was married to Abdul Mazid and had a son and a daughter.

During the Liberation War in 1971, Taramon took part in the war from Sector 11, in Shankar Madhabpur in Kurigram, under Sector Commander Abu Taher. To recognise her bravery in the battleground, Bangladesh government honoured her with the title Bir Pratik in 1973.
