Three people beaten to death

Three persons were beaten to death by locals in Rajshahi, Narshingdi and Narayanganj yesterday.

An alleged burglar was beaten to death by a mob in Dorshonapara area, Poba upazila, Rajshahi in the early hours of the day.

Senior Police Super of Rajshahi district Abdur Rashid told the Dhaka Tribune that locals had caught Hasan Ali, 25, son of Tafjur Ali of Darshanpara area in the upazila, around 2am while he was stealing goods from the grocery shop of one Deljan Begum.

The locals gave him a good beating, leaving him critically injured. He was taken to Poba upazila health complex where he died.

The body was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. 

In Narsingdi, a suspected robber was lynched in an attack at Taltali village, Palash upazila.

Officer-in-Charge of Palash police station Abul Kalam Azad said Yusuf Miah, 25, son of Tota Miah of Baluchar village in the upazila, along with his associates stormed into the house of one Mansur Miah at Taltali village around 3am for committing robbery.

Sensing the presence of the bandits, locals encircled them and caught Yusuf while his cohorts managed to flee.

Later, they gave him a good thrashing, leaving him critically injured.

On information, police took the victim to Palash Upazila Health Complex around 7am where doctors declared him dead.

In Narayanganj, a youth was beaten to death by some hoodlums at Shahi Bazar, Fatullah police station, Narayanganj.

The deceased was identified as Md Shahjahan, son of Amir Hossain, a resident of Chitashal area.

Local sources said local goons – Rony, Saju, and Sohel – beat up him mercilessly on February 9 as he refused to give extortion of Tk2 lakh. Later, he died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died yesterday morning.

Family members of the victim told the Dhaka Tribune that they yet to file any case over the murder as police were reluctant to file case.
