Kamal calls for more investment in livestock

Update : 14 Feb 2016, 06:38 PM

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal stressed that a lot of investment is needed to develop the country’s livestock sector which could alleviate poverty.

“Huge investment is needed to come in the (livestock) sector under public-private partnership initiative,” he said while addressing a seminar in Dhaka yesterday.

Mustafa Kamal said the government laid emphasis on the livestock sector to boost its production and thus address poverty and increase the country’s GDP growth.

“The government has already taken nine projects on livestock sector,” he said, adding that the government, however, alone cannot address all the problems.

Bonikbarta, a vernacular business daily, and ACI Limited, a local business firm, jointly organised the seminar at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

Research Institute Mohammad Giasuddin and ACI Executive Director Dr Ansari, among others, spoke at the seminar.

Speakers said livestock sector can play a strong role as about 26% people still live under the poverty line.
