Robin Ghosh passes at 77

Legendary music composer Robin Ghosh has passed away in Dhaka on Saturday, February 13, at the age of 77 after fighting a protracted illness. He last breathed around 8:00am at Cure Care Hospital in Gulshan, Dhaka.

Gosh was married to a renowned Bengali and Urdu film actress Shabnam, and the duo was among the most successful couples of the Pakistani film industry. He left behind his wife and only son Ronnie Ghosh.

Ghosh contributed greatly in the Pakistani film industry. Of the many achievements, he composed for the film Aaina, one of the greatest films ever made in the film Industry.

Ghosh reached fame in the mid 1960s when Ahmed Rushdie sang his compositions in films like Chakori, Jahan Tum Wahan Hum and Paisa. In his lifetime, he had also composed some Bangla popular romantic songs like Tomare legeche eto je bhalo, Ami roop nogorer rajkonna and Ke shoronero prantorey.

Ghosh was born in Iraq’s capital Baghdad in 1939 and got his early education in a convent school. In 1945, the six-year-old Ghosh, along with his family, moved to Dhaka. He showed great interest in music, collecting gramophone records and playing the harmonium, graduating with a music major from Dhaka.

 Six Nigaar awards were conferred on him for being the best composer for his works in the films Talaash (1963), Chakori (1967), Chahat (1974), Aiana (1977), Amber (1978) and Dooriyan (1984).
