A suspected robber has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in Baddapara area under Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria district.
The deceased is Roton, 30, of Chunta village and an enlisted robber.
Sarail OC Ali Arshad said: “A gang of robbers was preparing to commit robbery on Sarail-Nasirnagar-Lakhai road when a patrol of police noticed them around 4:30am Sunday.”
Noticing the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire targeting the police officials.
In retaliation, police fired back that left Roton dead while the others fled the scene.
The OC said Roton was an accused of six cases filed with the police station.
Brahmanbaria Additional Police Super MA Masud said: “Five policemen were injured in the incident. They are being treated at a local hospital.”
Meanwhile, four rounds of cartridge, a pipe gun, four machetes and some lethal weapons were found from the spot.
