The Marea-Debiganj Road in Panchagarh collapsed after opening 10 days earlier.
Sources said a large portion of the road in the district became unfit for vehicles as potholes developed at several points of the road due to use of low quality materials for construction.
Brick-chips, sand and bitumen got damaged on 17 kilometre of the road in Sugar Mill area as the substances had not been set up firmly, said sources.
Roads and Highways Department sources said Dhrubo Construction Ltd, a construction farm, was given the work in contact of Tk6.81 crore.
The farm sources said code on bitumen and stone was used to repair the road.
On January 12, the road was opened for people and a number of vehicles started to ply on the day.
But in the line of 10 days, the important portion of the road got damaged hampering the communication system.
Shamim of Bakduljhara, Nazrul, Yasin Ali businessman of Bakkodhur char area said the road became useless as the main portion of it had damaged.
They alleged that the authority did not show any sincerity when the work was going on.
There was no inspection to the work.
Roads and Highways Department executive engineer Tanvir Siddique could not be reached by mobile phone for comment.
Locals brought out a procession yesterday protesting the use of low quality substances to construct the road.
Meanwhile,a team of roads and highway department visited the spot.
Owner of the construction farm could not reached for comment.
