About Tk50 lakh of Publai Bank reportedly went missing Thursday afternoon while the money was being transported to Chittagong from Sitakunda branch by a micro-bus. However, none was arrested in connection with the incident.
Abdus Sabur Mia, manager of Sitakunda Branch of Pubali Bank, said: “The micro-bus was transporting two sacks of money amounting Tk1.30 crore. However, a sack containing Tk50 lakh went missing on the way suddenly.
“Then, I asked them to return back to Sitakunda as soon as the staffs of the micro-bus informed me about the incident. Later, another sack containing Tk81 lakh was kept in the locker of my branch.”
He said he had informed higher authorities about the matter.
“Most of the banks of Sitakunda area seek cooperation from the police for shipping money. However, the branch authorities did not seek help from us for transporting the money,” Md Iftekhar Hassan, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda police station.
“The incident seems to be mysterious to us. We will take legal steps after the bank authorities file case in this regard,” said Dulal Hossain, second officer of Sitakunda police station.
