State minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim has taken an initiatives to avail smartphones to the poor people with a nominal instalment of Tk25 to Tk30.
She made the statement at the inaugural ceremony of a website of Telecom Reporters' Network Bangladesh (TRNB) held at secretariat on Thursday afternoon.
She said: “I have already talked with Walton and told them to manufacture smartphones worth Tk2,000 to 2,500 so that poor people can avail the handsets with a nominal instalment. I hope this initiative will be successful.”
Tarana said: " I have ordered to form three mobile teams to monitor biometric SIM registration process which is now going on all over the country. It will be formed today [Thursday]."
Rashed Mehedi, president and Shamim Ahmed general secretary of TRNB, also spoke at the programme.
