Customs Intelligence officials have detained a person after detecting three packets filled with gold in his stomach at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
The detainee is Romman Talukdar, 35, of Daudkandi upazila of Comilla district.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department Director General Dr Moinul Khan confirmed the gold recovery to the Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “Romman arrived at the airport by a Bangladesh Biman flight from Malaysia on Tuesday evening.
“Later, we detected three packets filled with gold inside his stomach while he was passing through the body scanner arch.”
The DG said the detainee was admitted to a clinic in Uttara for operation last night.
However, the operation is likely to take place today [Wednesday].
