PSTC holds earthquake drill in capital

Giving a firsthand idea on what happens during an earthquake, a private development organisation Population Services and Training Center (PSTC) has conducted a 90-minute drill on evacuations and post-quake response in the capital’s Dhupkhola ground.

Simulating a massive tremor, sirens howled and smoke bellowed as a number of fire brigade units along with local volunteers and students took part in the drill arranged in association with Action Aid Bangladesh.

PSTC Executive Director Dr Noor Mohammad inaugurated the programme around 12pm Monday. They drill continued till 1:30pm.

Among others, National Alliance for Risk Reduction and Response (NARRI) Consortium Manager Sonia Safaetri, Members of ECHO delegate Daniel and Mark, and Deputy Direct of Bangladesh Disaster Management Department Gias Uddin, visited the programme.

Dhaka South City Corporation Councilor (Ward No 45) Abdul Kader, Reserved Woman Councilor Helana Akhter and Councilor (Ward No 46) Shidullah Minu were also present.
