Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission Prof Mizanur Rahman has called upon the respective persons and institutions to work together to protect Bangladeshi migrants living in abroad.
He made the call in a seminar titled 'Combating human trafficking and ensuring safe migration: Challenges and ways forward' held in the capital's Brac Centre Inn on Tuesday morning.
"Recruiting agencies never keep contact with the migrants once they leave the country. The embassies also do not respond to the migrants' problem if they need any assistance. It is high time to to protect the Bangladeshi migrants. We will have to work together in this regard," Mizanur said.
He said people take the help of brokers for going abroad in cheap. "If one get the opportunity to go abroad cheap through government arrangement, he/she will not be the victim of human trafficking."
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is poor friendly while the administration is rich friendly.
"As the prime minister is poor friendly, we have to use her to stop human trafficking," he added.
