At least four activists of ruling party student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) have been injured in a factional clash at Chittagong University (CU)’s Shah Amanat dormitory.
The injured were Mirza Kabir, 1st year student of Law, Md Masum, Anam Chowdhury, 4th year of History department and Arafat, final year of History department, said police sources.
Witnesses and police sources said CU BCL president Alamgir Tipu’s followers locked an altercation with the activists of BCL general secretary HM Fazle Rabbi Sujon in front of the CU Central Library at around 4:30pm Monday over previous rivalry triggering a scuffle.
Alamgir Tipu is known to a leader of Chittagong City Corporation mayor and also Chittagong city unit Awami League (AL) general secretary AJM Nasir Uddin while Sujon is loyal to city unit AL president ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury.
Later, the both groups locked into clash equipped with sharp weapons inside the Shah Amanat dormitory leaving four BCL men injured, said Inspector Salauddin Chowdhury.
Being informed, police and proctorial body rushed to the spot and dispersed the clashing activists and sent the injured to the CU medical centre, said police official.
Till filing of this report at 7:50pm, tension was mounting between the two groups at Shah Amanat dormitory while police were taking preparation to conduct raid, said campus sources.
