A Narayanganj court has framed charges against 35 people, including the prime accused Nur Hossain and 3 ex-RAB officials, in two cases filed over the sensational seven-murder.
Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Enayet Hossain fixed February 25 to begin the trial in presence of 23 accused on Monday afternoon.
A total of 12 accused are on the run in the cases.
Public Prosecutor Advocate Wazed Ali Khokon told the Dhaka Tribune that the counsels of the accused filed petitions seeking their acquittal.
However, the court rejected the petitions and indicted the 35 accused.
The 35 accused are Nur Hossain, former RAB officials Lt Col (retd) Tarek Sayed Mohammad, MM Rana, Major Arif Hossain, SI Purnendu Bala, ASI Bazlur Rahman and Abul Kalam Azad, Habildar Emdadul Haque and Nasir Uddin, Constable Shihab Uddin and Babul Hasan, Arif Hossain, Lance Naik Hira Mia, Belal Hossain, Lance Corporal Ruhul Amin, soldier Abu Toiyob, Nuruzzaman Nur, Nur Hossain's aide Mortuza Zaman Churchill, Ali Mohammad, Mizanur Rahman Dipu, Raham Ali, Abul Bashar, Selim, Shahjahan and Sanaullah Sana, Jamal Uddin, RAB Corporal Latifur Rahman, soldier Mohiuddin Munshi and Al Amin Sharif, Abdul Ali and Tajul Islam, Sergeant Enamul Kabir, ASI Kamal Hossain and constable Habibur Rahman.
On April 27, 2014, Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam and six others were abducted. Later, their bodies were recovered from Shitalaykha river on April 30. Nazrul’s wife filed an abduction case against Nur Hossain and several others on April 28.
On June 15, 2014, the West Bengal police arrested Nur with some of his accomplices from Kolkata. He had been in Indian custody since then.
He was handed over to BGB 26 Battalion Deputy Commander Maj Liakat Ali on November 12 last year. Later, Nur Hossain was shown arrested in 11 cases including the seven-murder case.
