Quality Improvement Initiative in Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital

The Quality Improvement Secretariat of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has taken initiatives to improve quality service in Shaheed Suhrawardee Medical College and Hospital.

The primary objective of the initiative is to develop and improve hospital’s working environment, said a press release of the Quality Improvement Initiative under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

This process has been facilitated by Work Improvement Teams (WITs) formed at different units of the hospital following a unique quality improvement approach 5S-CQI-TQM.

There are total 43 WITs are working in the hospital. Among 43 WITs, 6 WITs are selected as best WIT based on the selected criteria in identified area as it was earlier decided that the best team will be awarded based on their performance.

These awards will act as incentive necessary for their motivation.

The award giving ceremony will be held (for best 6 WITs) on 7th February at 9am in Shaheed Shurawradee hospital.

Explaining the initiatives, Md Ashadul Islam, additional secretary, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Director General, Health Economics unit said: “This ongoing progress will lead the hospital to turn itno a center of excellence.

“The changes are visible but we still need to reach the target where we will focus on improving the quality of clinical services to transform the hospital into a role model,” said Prof Dr Uttam Kumar Barua, the director of the hospital.

Dr Md Aminul Hasan, deputy director, the Health Economics Unit and Focal person, Quality Improvement Secretariat of the ministry mentioned that QIS has been working closely for last 6 months and following up the individual Quality Improvement Team of Shaheed Suhrawardee Medical College and Hospital.
