PS Mahsud, a double-deck passenger vessel of state owned Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation, stuck to a shoal around 10am yesterday in the Kirtonkhola River in Barisal.
Sources said the vessel plying on the Dhaka-Morelganj route left Dhaka for Barisal, on February 6.
Syed Abul Kalam Azad, assistant general manager of BIWTC station, said the vessel was carrying more than 200 passengers on board and stuck to the shoal while it was taking turn to anchor at Barisal River port.
Most of the passengers with the help of trawlers and boats reached the port safely and continued their journey on alternative way taking refund of fare, the BIWTC official said.
The passengers of the vessel blamed its captain for the incident.
They said he was running the vessel without caring about density of fog.
Idris Hosen Siraji, captain of the vessel, said Shahjahan Hawladar, second master, was driving the vessel during the incident.
The captain said a tugboat would reach at night to rescue the vessel.
