Suicide rates rise sharply

Suicide rates among the poor people in the district have risen sharply recent years.

In 2015,  230 men and women committed suicide whereas, in the previous year, the number was about 200.

According to police sources, people are committing suicide on trifling matters. The data have been collected from six police stations of the district.

According to the sources, some suicide cases were not recorded in the police stations.

 The family members of the victims did the last rituals of the bodies without informing the police.

So such cases were not recorded. But the number of such cases are not much, most probably 10/15 cases, the sources added.

Out of 230 suicide cases,  117 committed suicide by hanging, 43 committed suicide by swallowing poison,  and 52 committed suicide under the wheels of trains, by drowning in water and by burning.

Police sources said the causes of committing suicide are mostly family feuds, love affairs and rebuke of the parents.
