Bangladesh volleyball team began their 12th South Asian Games campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 sets victory over Afghanistan in the men’s volleyball event in Guwahati, India yesterday.
Bangladesh went ahead in the first set by 25-12 points before losing the next two sets by 20-25 and 21-25 point margins. They then staged a comeback and won the following sets by 31-29 and 15-13 points. On the same day, Sri Lanka and Pakistan also registered wins beating Nepal and Maldives respectively.
Meanwhile in the women’s football event, Bangladesh conceded a 3-0 loss against Nepal in their opening match at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shilling yesterday. Dipa Adhikari put Nepal ahead in the second minute of the game before Anu Lama doubled the lead in the 17th minute while Niru Thapa completed the scoreline in the dying stages.
The 12-day long 12th South Asian Games got underway in Guwahati yesterday. Around 2,500 athletes from eight Saarc countries are taking part. Dhaka hosted the last edition six years ago.
