Censored Image, a solo art project created, curated and censored by Wakilur Rahman, is on display at the Kala Kendra, 1/11, Iqbal road (3rd floor), Mohammadpur. Opened from February 3, the exhibition will commence till February 23, from 5pm to 8:30pm every day.
The exhibition is part of an ongoing art project of Wakilur Rahman which has developed and exhibited on Facebook since 2015. In this exhibition, 44 selected artworks are going on exhibition.
On this project, the artist used banal images and applied on them tools adopted by the media for censoring. This esthetical composition provokes the audience to reflect upon the unintended consequences of censorship - what was earlier conventional, turns into a source of interest once it is censored – and transfer them to a “battlefield” where social control and individual curiosity stare at each other.
Rahman has joined the popular social networking site in 2009and uses Facebook as an exhibition and social communication platform. From the beginning, almost every day, he has been uploading an image from his different conceptualised series, such as Narcissus, Skin, Inside-outside, Cultural Fast Food, Public performance and Censored Image.
Using Facebook as an open visual diary, he displays images from his exhibitions, daily activities and travels. Some of his images have been censored from the authority of Facebook.
