Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said from now on she would take all of her treatment at home instead of going abroad.
She said this expressing her profound satisfaction over the healthcare services of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialised Hospital after her regular health checkup.
"I'm very much happy over the services of the hospital and in future I will take all treatment here," she said while exchanging views with attending doctors, officials and local distinguished persons.
"If I fall sick in future ... don't take me abroad ... don't put me into an air ambulance ... I will take treatment in this hospital," she said.
Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialised Hospital and Nursing College was established at Tetuibari of Kashimpur area of the district under a joint venture project of Bangabandhu Memorial Trust and Malaysian hospital chain KPJ Healthcare in 2013.
The 250-bed hospital and nursing college was set up to provide advanced treatment facilities to the people. The facility is offering a comprehensive range of medical services.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived at the hospital from her Gonobhaban residence this morning and went straight to the counter of the hospital for registration. She paid the registration and checkup fees and received token.
Her health checkup began under the supervision of the country's renowned medicine specialist Professor Dr ABM Abdullah. Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist Professor Dr Pran Gopal Dutta examined her ear, nose and throat while noted ophthalmologist Professor Dr Deen Mohammad Nurul Haque examined her eyes.
Sheikh Hasina said she was intending to come to the hospital with her sister Sheikh Rehana much ago. We mull establish a medical college here, she said.
She said Bangladesh needs more doctors and hospitals as their number is much below than requirement. The hospital was established aimed at ensuring better healthcare services mostly to the toiling masses, she added. The Premier asked the authorities of the hospital to provide financial support to the patients as most of them are poor. She asked for reducing the consultancy fee of the doctors.
Sheikh Hasina announced giving Taka 10 crore as donation from Bangabandhu Memorial Trust to the hospital fund, saying all of her family members would give donation to the hospital as it's named after their mother. Treatment cost of the poor and Freedom Fighters would be borne from the interest of the donation, she said.
The Prime Minister urged the hospital authorities to take initiatives to build up association with retired specialized doctors, saying they can render service every day in the hospital which would help give the people better service.
The Premier gave the hospital authorities some advice for improvement of its services.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haq, Dr M Habib A Millat, MP, Dr Enamur Rahman, MP, PM's former advisor Prof Dr Syed Modasser Ali, secretary general of Bangabandhu Memorial Trust Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, CEO of the hospital Joytun Soliaman, director Arif Mahmud and member of the hospital managing committee Bayezid Khurshid Reaz were present, among others.
