Kuldip Nayar celebrates Bangladeshi journalism at Daily Star jubilee event

Bangladesh is setting an example for secularism and democracy in Asia, veteran Indian newsman Kuldip Nayar told guests attending the Daily Star's Silver Jubilee celebrations on Friday.

He attributed the country's success to its tradition of good journalism.

Kuldip was one of several eminent Asian media personalities to attend the newspaper's 25th anniversary bash.

The English daily honoured 24 individuals and one institution with lifetime achievement awards “for their lifelong devotion and commitment to the growth of Bangladesh.”

Professor Anisuzzaman, on behalf of those who were awarded said: “By giving these awards, the Daily Star has introduced a good practice that will inspire professionals to do their best.”

Other foreign invitees to the gala event held at Dhaka's Osmani Memorial Auditorium included Suthichai Sae Yoon, chairman of Kasturi and Sons Limited, N Ram, publisher of the Hindu Group of Publications, and Geo News Executive Editor Hamid Mir.
