Teachers to wait till Feb 23 for solution

Update : 04 Feb 2016, 07:52 PM

Federation of Bangladesh Public University Teachers (FBUTA) yesterday extended their “no agitation” plan until February 23 over their issue of eradicating discrepancies in the new pay scale.

They would come up with fresh programmes if their demands for separate pay scale and reducing disparities are not solved within this time.

Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, secretary general of the FBUTA, made the announcement following a meeting at DU Teachers’ Club.

“We will sit on February 23 to assess the development. Then we will decide the next course of our movement,” he said, adding that they were expecting to meet the prime minister before February 23.

“We hope to get positive response as soon as possible as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is concerned over the situation,” Prof Kamal said.

Representatives of the FBUTA are set to meet with education and finance secretaries on February 7. University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan is expected to chair the meetings.

The public university teachers observed seven-day strike last month. Getting assurance from the premier, they postponed the strike on January 20 and announced to declare further programme on February 3 viewing the progress.
